This study examines the impact(s) of Wi-Fi usage on the behavioral pattern of students in IUCTT Sri Damansara Campus. International University College of Technology Twintech is one of the private institutions of Higher learning in Malaysia.
The model used is a slight modification of the theory of Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) as proposed by Diniz in 1998, with an additional factor such as security and privacy, risk, and trust, Socioeconomic /Psychological factors as well as Operational infrastructure.
This research adopted a quantitative technique and the research design adopted was the descriptive statistics while the research instrument used is the questionnaire which was designed and distributed to 100 respondents using the online survey method.
However, the results revealed we were able to clearly identify that majority of IUCTT Sri Damansara students depends solely on the college’s wireless network for both their academic and personal purposes while on campus such as social networking, assignments, blogging, researches, searches of information, communicate with friends, family and loved ones, etc.
We also discovered how much they depend on the school’s Wi-Fi connection for their day-to-day academic activities as well as for other personal social activities such as Web based email, online banking, online shopping, photo sharing, instant messaging, online dating, other social networks (blogs) and so on.
Finally, we discovered that the Campus wireless network serves as a useful e-learning tool to the student populace and does not have any significant negative impacts on them. This is due to the fact that the ICT department censors most influencing websites which makes it almost impossible for the students to be negatively distracted.
From the findings of this report, we were able to The researcher recommends that future researchers should focus on other aspects and problems related to Campus Area networks and uses in IUCTT campuses and to also increase the number of respondents and include the members of staffs of IUCTT as respondents. This will enable him/her to get a generalized and more valid feedback.
